Art Wars: Keats vs. Byron

When the creators of beautiful work fight, things can get ugly. Enter our new web series, Art Wars, where we’ll explore art history’s greatest rivalries in the words of the artists themselves.

We begin with a battle between two of England’s greatest poets, John Keats and Lord George Byron. Though both associated with the 19th century British Romantic movement, these two men actually couldn’t have been more different. The tall, rich, and handsome Byron was a rock star in his own time, while the diminutive and unassuming Keats had to rely purely on his literary chops to get by.

These poets also had some very different ideas about their craft, with Byron adhering closely to British tradition, and Keats continually trying to push the medium forward.

But who came out on top in this heated literary conflict? Watch the video above to find out.
