Muscle & Finesse: Joseph Conyers
“I think every musician has a little bit of a slice of obsessive compulsiveness in their DNA,” says Joseph Conyers, assistant principal bassist for the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Indeed, this “obsessive” devotion to craft appears in nearly every part of Conyers’s life. In addition to his orchestral performances, the Georgia native also heads up Project 440, an organization that molds and mentors budding young musicians (including those in Philadelphia’s celebrated All-City Orchestra).
But Conyers isn’t solely interested in music. Those who only know him from the concert stage are often surprised to learn of his dedication to another pursuit — competitive bodybuilding.
